TEMPORARY RATE BUYDOWN OPTIONS

With interest rates and home prices having gone up significantly, using a temporary rate buydown allows you to save thousands of dollars in the first few years of homeownership. The buydowns are paid for with a seller credit. There are several different temporary buydown options available: 1-0, 1-1, 2-1, and the 3-2-1. You can see the rate and payment savings the 3-2-1 buydowns provide in the generic scenarios above. The seller credit needed to cover the buydown depends on the buydown you choose and your loan amount. The buydown cost can range from 1/2% of the home's sale price to over 4%, if you are buying with the minimum 3% or 3.5% down payment and choose the 3-2-1 buydown.
